Technology of Semikilled and Unkilled Steel Production Using the ingot of a New Rational Form
Using the ingot of the new form is a modern advanced technology of semikilled and unkilled steel production
The technology allows:
- to reduce the metal consumption for semikilled steel rolling down to 1.04 - 1.07 t/t, for unkilled steel rolling - down to 1.07 - 1.1 t/t.
For comparison: The following values were achieved at Ukrainian metallurgical works under conditions of the conventional rolling technology for the ingots, cast into the big-end-down moulds: metal consumption for semikilled steel rolling 1.09 — 1.11 t/t, for unkilled steel rolling - 1.12 — 1.16 t/t.
- to increase the temperature of the ingot charge by 50 - 80 ╓ and, as a result, to reduce the time of ingot heating before rolling. The temperature of the ingots of the rational form, delivered to the soaking pits division, makes 950 - 990°C.
For comparison: Under conditions of the conventional rolling technology for the ingots, cast into the big-end-down moulds, the maximum temperature of the ingots, delivered to the soaking pits division, makes 900 - 910°C
- to reduce metal waste in the pits by means of reducing the heating time
The studies, carried out at a number of Ukrainian metallurgical works, prove that the quality and the stress-strain properties of a billet, produced from the ingot of the new rational form, are similar to the corresponding characteristics of a billet, produced using the conventional technology.
The technology of the rolled stock production using the ingot of the rational form, compared with the conventional technology, requires partial replacement of the mould inventory, as well as marginal changes in the ingot heating modes in the soaking pits and in the ingot drafting schedules in the roughing mills.
