Prediction of Thermophysical Processes during the Formation of a Continuous Casting

The mathematical model was developed to describe heat transfer and continuous casting solidification processes under various conditions.

 

 

The calculated parameters:

  • temperature at any point of time and at any point of the casting;
  • heat sink intensity;
  • solid phase fraction at any point of time and at any point of the casting;
  • rim thickness and local solidification ratio at any section of the casting;
  • depth of the molten metal zone.

The software package works for different types of continuous casters (vertical, radial, curved casters) and for continuous castings of different sections (slabs, blooms, billets).

 

 

 

The software allows to predict the risk of structure defects formation and to choose the best modes of the casting cooling in the mould and in the secondary cooling zone.

The software is used to plan continuous casters being redesigned and those being newly constructed.
