Casting and Rolling Technology for Ingots from Unkilled and Semilkilled Steel Grades
The developed technology of producing slabs and blooms from unkilled and semikilled steel grades poured into big-end-down mold ensures yield increase up to 1.035-1.050 t/t for blooms, and up to 1.065-1.090 t/t for slabs, depending on the casting method (downhill or uphill casting). Mold life is increased by over than 10%.
The developed technology gives the above-mentioned advantages and, which is important, provides for improvement of the rolled stock macro- and microstructure.
The present technology ensures reduction of the stock discontinuity which results in the development of compacting cracks in the finished product.
The technology includes:
- deoxidation technology for the metal poured into the mold;
- ingot forming which ensures reduction of defects at its ends during rolling
- reduction of the crops standard quantity
At OJSC "Zaporozhstal" the consumption coefficient for carbon and structure steel grades on the slabbing mill (0.8-20 кп/пс) was reduced by 11÷14 kg/t and the increased crops in the roughing mill were reduced by 5÷1 kg/t due to changing the from of the ingot head only, without changing the crops standard quantity.
Mold life increased up to 120-125 pourings.
